Benedict Stanberry | The MBA Training Trainer

Benedict Stanberry funded his university studies by working as a hospital administrator, healthcare assistant and auxiliary nurse, from where he went on to hold health care related positions in legal practice, academia, management consulting and elected politics and to become a senior executive in a number of healthcare organisations.

Originally trained as a lawyer, Ben has bachelors and masters degrees in law and was a faculty member of both the law school and business school at Cardiff University, one of the prestigious Russell Group of leading British universities.  He was named Welsh Lawyer of the Year in recognition of his advisory work with the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Commission.

Following a move to management consulting in 2001, Ben led the provision of advisory services to numerous public and private sector organisations.  He was a health care policy adviser to several government ministries and a director and interim chief executive of a Brussels-based health care NGO.

In 2006, Ben was elected as a Conservative member of local government in south west London where his responsibilities included overview and scrutiny of the quality of publicly-funded health care services.  In the same year he was appointed commercial and legal director of a private company providing diagnostic imaging services.

In 2008, Ben was awarded an MBA scholarship by Henley Business School, which is consistently ranked among the world’s top schools by The Economist and The Financial Times.  Since 2009, he has been a health care management consultant, lecturer and author – advising and training numerous organisations in the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific regions.

Ben presently lives in Dubai and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and a Member of the Institute of Directors and Institute of Healthcare Management.  He is a regular speaker at both national and international health care events and has written numerous books, book chapters and journal articles on health care strategy and management.

Ben describes his proudest success as his victory over advanced colorectal cancer, with which he had a three year battle and was given only a 30 per cent chance of survival.  He believes his most embarrassing failure is being ‘fired’ from the reality TV show The Apprentice.
