Mark is a leading expert in creating and delivering complex business transformation programmes in the energies, utilities and nuclear sectors. He has worked in the sector for over 30 years. 

Mark holds B.Sc. M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computational Physics. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for IT (FBCS) and a Member of the Expert Witness Institute (MEWI).  Prior to founding Barnsnape Consulting, Mark was a Partner at PA Consulting Group and after that, Vice-President at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young. He is now Managing Director of Barnsnape Consulting Services Limited.

Mark has developed a balanced portfolio of delivery skills including enterprise business design, portfolio and programme management, governance, and strategic IS analyses; that in combination with his stakeholder management, business analysis, management accounting and technical skills provide a proven capability to devise and deliver major programmes.

His most recent assignment was establishing the transformation programme for Northern Gas Networks, Scotia Gas, and Wales & West Utilities to exit the National Grid Systems Operation Managed Service Agreement (SOMSA).  This required restructuring of the control room systems to a distributed model, rebuilding of the industry interfacing, redesign of telemetry, establishment of new commercial arrangements between all parties and development of safety cases acceptable to the HSE.

Mark has been the High Court expert witness who analysed the dispute between a leading Systems Integrator and their client. The insight from this case carries forward into other assignment work.

In previous assignments Mark has worked throughout the value chain within the water, gas and electricity industries, including customer services, billing, debt collection, metering, asset management, field force management and back office operations.
